<image:title>Blog - Spring Sneaker Style - The sneaker that goes with everything</image:title>
<image:caption>A question I get asked all the time? What shoes do I wear with this. If it’s casual comfort you are looking for these are my go-to favourites (linked below). Because reaching for a pair of classic white sneakers is one my favourite style tips that allows you to dress down any outfit with a simple swap. Extra points for comfort, breathability and cushioning thanks to the technology that GEOX serves up with every shoe they make. I’ll be honest - it makes is hard to reach for any other brand. Why I love this style? The classic and low profile on this sneaker makes it easy to wear with everything from joggers, to jeans, to skirts and dresses. Need some proof (or inspiration), check out my latest video HERE. Here are a few of other pieces I’m reaching for this Spring Season:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - If It’s Not a Hell Yes, It’s a Hell No</image:title>
<image:caption>We’ve invested a lot of time and energy in our lives doing things we probably don’t really want to do. Maybe out of habit, because you feel bad, or you were raised with the belief of “doing the right thing”. Thing is, if we are constantly giving up our time and energy for things that we don’t really want to do, suddenly that’s what a majority of our life becomes. We have gotten really good at saying "yes" to things because we are "supposed" to, or because it's the "right" thing to do instead of what makes the most sense to us. What matters most to us. What gets us excited. If you are at all wishy washy when it comes to saying yes to something (not considering fear as a factor), then say no. Your goals, your agenda, your life. When you say "no" to something you free up more room and time for other things. And if you aren’t sure how you feel, ask yourself on a scale of 1-10 how excited you are. If it’s not an 8 or higher, it’s a hell no friend.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Redefining Success</image:title>
<image:caption>Success. One of those buzzwords that often triggers a lot of competitive and "less than" feelings in a lot of people. Well, depending on what definition you are comparing yourself to. Have you ever stopped to think about what success looks and feels like for you? Is it freedom, fulfillment, peace? Rule of thumb in life - as long as you are comparing yourself to, and against other people's definitions you are always going to come up short. Because you're not working towards the same thing - got it? For me what success feels like has changed, evolved and taken on different iterations over the years. The part that has been consistent is that the older (and perhaps wiser) I get, the more and more success becomes about how I feel, in addition to creating contentment in our life. When you define what makes sense for you - especially success, the only thing you should be aiming for is that. No one else’s definition and definitely not in comparison to - because it’s not their life you are living - its yours.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Your Limiting Beliefs</image:title>
<image:caption>Limiting beliefs - the thoughts that swirl around in our head on repeat trying to keep us small, safe, protected and out of harms way. They live often undetected in our subconscious until we decide to step out and take action. That's when they come to life and get really loud. Because remember, they exist to "protect us". They get so loud that often we fail to even get started. Statements like: "it will never work" "you'll never follow through" "you aren't ______ enough" These thoughts are designed to keep us safe. But in doing so they also keep us small. Will you need to become consciously aware of what yours are? Yes. Will you have to go head-to-head with them and show them who's boss? Also yes. I have faith in you. In fact, I'm pretty sure those beliefs don't stand a chance against you and your new ways.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Non-Negotiables. The things you do no matter what. Things you don’t de-commit on or break a promise to yourself about. For me, my non-negotiables are always chosen based on what I know will leave me feeling at my best. Are they a form of goals? Absolutely. But whOh, you know the feeling. The one that so many experience on a Sunday night thinking about having to get up and go to work the next morning. Or maybe when you have to see a certain family member or do something that you said yes to when really it should have been a hard no. And then the flip side to this is we have moments of excitement - that most of us "save up" until the weekend. Not entirely sure why we do this to ourselves. Why we don't incorporate things that excite us and make us feel good mid-week as opposed to only allowing ourselves to feel it two days of the week - but I digress.</image:caption>

For me, my non-negotiables are always chosen based on what I know will leave me feeling at my best. Are they a form of goals? Absolutely. But what I love is that they leave room to account for how you are feeling that day. It means that you get consciously aware of how you are feeling and asking yourself what you need that day to feel at your best. Mine? Pretty simple. Get up, move my body and sweat it out, and get ready for the day. Might not seem like I big deal. But what I know about myself is no matter what - I am always at my best when I move my body to start my day. That might mean a jog, a run blown sweaty run worthy of my cross country days, lifting weights or yoga. Some days it’s a 10 in terms of intensity, and some days a 5. The only consistent thing is that I do it. Getting ready? It’s a mindset. When I get ready it means I am more likely to do all of the things, but also - that I’m ready for anything else that comes up. I’m most ready and confident self when I invest in getting ready - including putting on real clothes, ah hm.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Who is “They” Anyway?</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’ve ever had a conversation with me where you utter words of doubt - this is the face you are going to be met with. So glad that my friend Ash was able to capture it all of those years ago in the middle of a photoshoot - but I digress. Today I want to highlight and call out the subconscious thought and statement that almost all of us have have been held back by. That thought being: what will they think? I’ve got a question for you? Who exactly is “they” anyway? No seriously - who is it? Is it someone specific? Is it someone close to you? I want you to get very consciously aware of who it is - because for most of us, it isn’t someone. It’s a hypothetical. We have this subconscious idea in our head that there is this individual or maybe group of people out there just waiting to judge and criticize us. Maybe yours are actual judges sitting at a table with microphones or maybe it is a group sitting in grandstands ready to boo a la the losers at the Super Bowl put off by Taylors existence (sigh) - either way, you have a visual of who they are. But they aren’t real.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Ask For What You Want</image:title>
<image:caption>I once had a boss who used to say: Don’t mince your words. What she really meant by that was: say what you want to say. And she was right. Was I a little bit terrified of her at times (most of the time) - yes. But I can confidently say that over a decade later her statement of “don’t mince your words” still sticks in my mind and is something I rely on what I catch myself toning down my message to be one more palatable. Much like how we start our emails and texts with an apology or lean on other approaches to soften our overall message - we rarely ask for what we want. Instead we lean on hope or subtle messages instead of just coming out and asking for it. I know, terrifying right? But what if you did? Ask for what you wanted that is. Instead of hoping, or hinting, or sending subtle messages. What if you were direct without toning down your message. What would be the outcome? Can I tell you something? I think the outcome would be what you want.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - What Are You Waiting For</image:title>
<image:caption>"it's not the right time" "maybe next month" "I'm just so busy" Is this topic similar to “Reasons vs. Excuses”? Yes, but sometimes we need to hear things in a different way for them to resonate - you know what I mean. Can I ask you something direct? What do YOU actually want. Whatever you want you can do. It might not be easy. And it might require a lot of hard work. And it will definitely require you to move through your fear. But - you sitting around and leaning on the biggest excuse of all time known as "perfect circumstances" -which are never going to come is the ultimate roadblock. But again, what do you really want. Do you actually want to change careers? Do you want to get “in shape”? Do you want learn more about something? Because if you do - what are you doing about it? What action are you taking to do it - to go after it? Listen, whatever you want is available to you - but you do have to first know what you want, and then choose to go after it. And by that I mean - take action.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Do The Hard Things</image:title>
<image:caption>Okay, but by hard things let me clarify. Hard can mean it’s physically challenging, challenging your mindset to be one that believes in yourself, things you need to show up for even when you’re not ready or when you’re scared. Hard means something different to all of us. Here’s the thing though, no matter what you’re hard - the only way you are going to get to the other side where all of that growth is that everyone talks about - is through taking action. Like that statement that says “feel the fear and do it anyway” - it definitely applies here. We can read all of the inspiring books, motivational Monday posts and self-help books, but if we don’t do anything with it - well, nothing changes. Sigh, I know. The thing is, we know this. And as a side note 80%+ people stay stuck in thinking and planning (hence reading, being inspired, looking for motivation, etc.) but never truly take any action. Why? Because going from Planning to Action means moving through the fear - the hard things, and doing it anyway. In short, I’m pretty sure it’s where Nike’s famous tagline came from - Just Do It.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Reasons vs. Excuses</image:title>
<image:caption>This topic is one that could have a list of sub-categories, but for the sake of bringing attention to it and dare I say “wake up to it” - let’s break down the differences between the two. Because once you do, you’ll be able to call yourself out. Reasons = conscious choices; high-energy; empowered decision-making Excuses = low-energy; lame decision making I mean, I don't think you're going to find these definitions in Webster's dictionary, but there is a difference. Reasons are rooted in conscious choices that are not in alignment with what we want to do and who we want to be. Excuses on the other hand are attached to lower energy, and often fear disguised. You aren't empowered when you make excuses. But I get it, we’ve been making them for a long time. Why I'm highlighting the difference? So you can start to call yourself out on the excuses you make that are masked as reasons (gasp!). They may or may not sound like: I don't have time, I'm so busy, I'm a mom, and the lame list goes on. If your reasons for doing or not doing something lead you closer to your goals - amazing. But if they don't, my spidy sense says it's an excuse masked as a reason.</image:caption>

We highlighted those qualities so that you could bring them to the surface to have at the ready for when you need to rely on them the most. Those moments? Usually when we are in growth mode, and stepping into new territory in the form of: uncomfortable feelings. Thing is, we’ve told ourselves that uncomfortable feelings equal bad. And it couldn’t be further from the truth. Uncomfortable just means you are doing something new, experiencing something new, trying something new. <image:title>Blog - Be Your Own Biggest Fan</image:title>
<image:caption>No one is going to care about your goals and dreams as much as YOU do. Let me repeat that one more time for the people in the back: NO ONE is going to care more about YOUR goals and dreams as much as YOU do. Gasp. I know, we’ve got a lot of time and energy to make up for - right. Rewind back almost ten years ago when I decided to step away from an almost twenty-year career in the same industry. My vision: to create a brand that would leave women feeling better no matter what the interaction. An event, a space, style, personal growth, reading a post like this one. It was a vision that was hard to explain. It wasn’t a traditional career that people could understand. Most importantly (to others apparently) - like how do you make money (let me show you the ways - but where was I?). It didn’t make sense to most people, it was hard to understand and explain, and it was confusing - particularly to a generation who didn’t grow up or have any experience with the online world.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Mirror, Mirror</image:title>
<image:caption>If layering can create a really great outfit, today’s layer is going to up the ante the way a faux fur jacket would - just saying. If you read the post the other day about the things we say to ourself (usually subconsciously) when we step in front of the year, that’s going to seem like “cute, must have, or trending” if we were talking about clothes. In short - changing how you talk to yourself when you step in front of the mirror is phase one of self love and acceptance - today we’re moving onto phase two. And I should preface, perhaps the mot transformational exercise I have EVER done in my life. Ready? I want you to think about the statement you say over and over to yourself. The one you KNOW isn’t serving you or leading to you feeling like your best self. The one you know isn’t kind and that you would never say to someone you loved. Got it? Great. Need some terrible inspiration? It might sound like: you aren’t enough, you are weak, you are dumb (inspo from my grade 7 volleyball practice) - you get the drift. Now to get this really right you need to give yourself time and space. In short - an empty household (a miracle in itself I know), but it’s necessary because if you don’t, you’ll be too worried someone is going to hear you (you’re getting nervous aren’t you).</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Stop Apologizing</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m not the first to use this statement, and I certainly won’t be the last. It seems like no big deal, but I gotta tell you - this simple statement might just be the one consistent thing that tells your subconscious to stay small. What do I mean? Take for example stepping into the Yoga/Fitness studio where I go. 95% women attending most classes all going through the actions: arriving, taking off your shoes, heading into the room, gathering all of the equipment that you’re going to need for the class and then settling in. In that five minute timeframe I probably hear the words “I’m sorry” at least fifty times - and I’m not exaggerating. Sorry for needing a weight at the same time as you, sorry for needing to put my shoes in the same area as you, sorry, sorry, sorry. And then the class ends and the whole sequence starts all over again. Sigh. But we all know it doesn’t stop there. Going down the aisle at a grocery store, starting out our emails with “sorry for…” and just about everything in between. It’s exhausting. But it’s also time we stop - because first and foremost you have nothing to apologize for.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - What Do You Really Want?</image:title>
<image:caption>It seems like an easy enough question right? But do you know? And even when you do know we start to really complicate it by layering on statements like “but I don’t know”, or “maybe one day”, or “it’s not really realistic” - in short, we give up on whatever it is before we even give ourselves a chance to get started. What do you really want? Yes, the things that show up and should be on your Vision Board (Faux Farm with lots of goats and more cats, because I’ve decided it’s socially acceptable to have more than three cats on a faux farm vs. living in a residential area without running the risk of being called a cat lady - but where was I?). For most of us creating a Vision Board for the future seems easy - because truthfully (and I’m going to be blunt), it seems so far in the future and currently out of reach that it almost means you don’t have to do anything about it. Sigh. I know, that one stung</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Your Best Qualities</image:title>
<image:caption>If you didn’t see this coming after yesterday’s post, you don’t know me at all. Today, as a nod to The Friday Five YOU are highlighting what you believe to be at least five of your best qualities. Okay, but before you start (or run away) I want to note a few things. I want this to be what YOU think. What YOU believe to be true about yourself. Not what you think others think about you. This isn’t the time to make yourself small or say things like “I guess I’m….” no, no, no - be bold about it, be loud about it, be really really freaking proud about it - because it’s what makes you YOU. And you my friend are pretty freaking amazing. You just need to remind yourself of it. Want to amply this exercise (yeah you do) - think about how those qualities have made the lives of those you care about the most - better. Because you know they have. As always, thanks for choosing to be here. Susan</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Qualities in Others</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m just going to cut right to the chase on this one: You can’t recognize a quality in someone else you don’t have within yourself. Let me repeat: you cannot recognize a quality in someone else you don’t have within yourself. Now, I will say - this goes both ways (ah hm, those positive qualities that we admire, but also the ones we don’t). But for the purpose of today and focusing on all things positive - let’s focus on those ones. So let’s turn this into a quick exercise. Think about someone you admire (I know, so many right?). Now think about a quality about them that stands out the most to you. Is it that they persevere, their warmth, how kind they are? Get as specific as possible when it come to the quality. Now, identify that quality within yourself (I know, this is the harder part of this exercise). The reason why you might be struggling to identify it, is because you are looking at it in the same context. Don’t. Just think about the quality and look for where it shoes up for YOU. People are simply mirrors for us. It’s how we choose to use that information that matters. Admire something about someone - its the universe telling you, or reminding you its within you too.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Your Shortcut to Positive Affirmations</image:title>
<image:caption>Positive Affirmations. Phrases or words people say to themselves to replace negative thoughts with positive ones. If you aren’t familiar with them they can be as simple as statements like: you are smart, you are enough, you are capable, and the list literally goes on forever. In short, get acquainted with them. The idea behind positive affirmations is that the more we say them to ourselves the more we believe them. Is this true? Absolutely. But if you want to supercharge your positive affirmations, my advice is getting to the bottom of why you might not believe them to be true. Me? The statement I leaned on for far too long and believed was that I was dumb. Yes, I know. But let me get you acquainted to where this came from exactly. An honour roll student, sports award winner, citizenship award winner, first to get my pen license in my class (of course I was). In all aspects I have always been an achiever. An A-type through and through who will put more pressure on myself than anyone ever could. And then one day during a co-ed volleyball practice before school started on a</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Wake Up to What You are Saying</image:title>
<image:caption>I’ve worked with hundreds (approaching a thousand - whoop whoop!) of women 1:1 over the past few years and just when I think I’ve heard it ALL in terms of what you say to yourself when you step in front of the year, you don’t up with something new I’ve never heard before. If you’ve been someone who has ever said something not so positive about yourself in my presence you’ll know that I waste NO time cutting you off. The scary part is that I know it doesn’t just stop there. We could break down this topic in so many ways: how you talk about yourself to others, the words you choose to make yourself smaller when you communicate, how you can’t accept a compliment, you get the drift. But I want to focus on this: how you talk to yourself. Because I gotta tell you, you could do better. A LOT better. But I digress. There are a few approaches you can have in your back pocket, ready to go when those less than positive statements try to rear their ugly head. Ready?</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Self Love: What it is vs. What it isn’t</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s officially love month, and as much as I love a good Valentine’s guide with gifting ideas (ah hm, jewellery - always jewellery) I’d rather use it as an opportunity to look at, explore and bring attention to all of the love that surrounds us day in day out. Consider the next few weeks like an expanded version of the Friday Five. First things first, let's talk about the fact that there is a huge difference between what “self care” is and what “self love is". Example? Let's say having a perfectly curated bath is something you love to do. It fills you up and gives you that time, space and calm you need away from life. You can sit in that perfect bath complete with bath bomb, dim lighting, candles and a book - but if you're saying negative and darn right mean things to yourself before, during or after said perfectly curated bath - all it was was giving yourself space and time, not self love. But before we do, let’s break it down so we are all on the same page:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Celebrating YOU</image:title>
<image:caption>We have become so good at focusing on all of the things that we haven't (yet) accomplished or how far we still have to go instead of stopping to take notice of everything that we have already accomplished and how far we have already come. Oh, and another thing - take ownership for the work and action that you have taken. That was all YOU. Get in the habit of taking notice of how far you have come and celebrating YOU. With it being Friday, you better believe we’re applying this to the Friday Five. New around here or don’t know what I’m talking about? The Friday Five is all about stopping to take notice of things that filled you up this week. Maybe it was a person, a quote, an experience, a great pair of shoes - whatever it is, take notice of it. Because the more we take notice of all of the things that fill up our life and fill us up - the more gratitude we’ll feel. Today's Theme in Action: What did you accomplish this week? How did you SHOW UP? Maybe you kept a promise to yourself you would normally break. Maybe you finally broke the cycle of being stuck and chose to move forward. Celebrate it. Because YOU did it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Do You Get Stuck in Analysis Paralysis</image:title>
<image:caption>Do you overthink, write out pros and cons list or reach out for advice from other people when it comes to making decisions big or small? Do you get stuck in the what if's and rarely move forward on anything because you are lost in your thoughts or stay stuck in the thinking and planning phases? If you are like how I used to be - those what if scenarios were never focused on possibility and positive outcomes, but instead what might go wrong. And then one day I decided to flip the script - more specifically to be a more positive one. One rooted in "what is the best thing that could happen". Because guess what? when you focus on that - all of your energy is focused there instead of directing it to all things negative - or simply staying stuck. Something else I learned about myself along the way? Holding onto the belief that by making a decision and moving forward meant that I couldn’t reverse it or change my mind. And that just simply isn’t true. When we stay stuck and unable to move forward we waste our energy going in circles instead of breaking the pattern and putting that energy towards the outcome we truly want.</image:caption>

<image:caption>"I should be further along" "I should be more successful" "I should be a better mom" "I should work out more" "I should____________" Projections are around us all of the time. We see people on social media or living their life #IRL and immediately think to ourselves "I should _________". But should you? Do you want to? Notice all of the times you say "should" in your life. Ask yourself what you really want and what is important to you. Are you living by the rules and expectations that YOU have created or are you living by someone else's that may or may not include society at play. Reminders are around us everywhere, you can either choose to see them as a gentle reminder to check in with yourself to make sure you are in alignment with what you want and need - or, you can use it to feel like sh*t about what you aren't doing (even though it might not be what you want or need). Again, your choice. Make sure it's an empowered one.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Don’t Break Promises to Yourself</image:title>
<image:caption>Our brain doesn’t know context. It just knows how to react and respond how it sees fit. It’s why our nerves rise to the surface in new and unfamiliar situations in an effort to protect us and to keep us out of harms way even though there’s no real need to protect us. The other context it doesn’t know - when something is kind of important, or really really important. Which is why it’s so important to not break promises to yourself. Kind of like a side kick to yesterday’s topic of Showing Up (didn’t read it? You can read it here) - why it’s so important to not break promises to yourself is because much like showing up - our subconscious receives the message that we matter and that we are important. When we break promises to ourselves we are subconsciously saying that it doesn’t matter - that we don’t matter. And the worst part - we believe it. Sounds a bit dramatic I know. But let me ask you this: what happens when you say you are going to do something, maybe set a goal and then - don’t follow through. What feelings come up for you? I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume the feelings that usually come up are those related to shame, guilt, and any other variation of negative self-talk. And that is the energy you are carrying.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Importance of Showing Up - And why it matters</image:title>
<image:caption>Raise your hand if you’ve ever decided and committed to doing something - and then, you don’t. Sigh. Now before we move forward, I should clarify what I don’t mean. What I don’t mean is committing to something that you never should have said yes to in the first place. You know, out of guilt or because you didn’t have a quick response line like I do for getting caught in a moment. I’m talking about the energy that typically comes along with the start to a new year, or in this particular case - a new week. All of the things you are going to do, or dare I say “change” - and then, the moment arrives and you don’t. Here is why you need to STOP doing that, and instead choose to show up. In my humble opinion, part of the problem is that most of us have convinced ourselves or believe we have to be 100% all in on something. You know what I mean, an all in or nothing kind of approach. Yep, you know what I’m talking about. I’m totally guilty of it too. Well, at least in the past. My approach now? Show up. Because that is the hardest part. And in my humble (and semi professional opinion), once you do show up - the rest of it will be easy. And as a follow up and reminder to this: showing up and doing whatever it is at 60% is better than not doing it at all - but you probably already knew that. But here’s the most important message about showing up…</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Why The Daily Dose? - Back to Basics</image:title>
<image:caption>Anyone else feel bored with what’s being served up when you scroll? Yep, me too. Don’t get me wrong - there are things about Social Media I love - like the community I’ve found and using it as a supportive tool to my business. But after watching it evolve in ways I can’t get behind (ah hm, like the automatic following of certain accounts this week) - I decided now was the time to get back to doing something I love to do. Away from the noise, away from the mindless scroll, and away from whatever is trending this week. What I will continue to follow is what Taylor is doing and what she is wearing. Listen - it’s not all bad. That thing I want to get back to? Writing. Because I gotta be honest with you - I have a lot to say and a lot to share. And 7-second videos just doesn’t cut it. Sigh. Funny thing is, this is how it all started at Isla Pearl. A Blog with no niche other than wanting to create a space where you could take what you need, and feel better for it. Which is why I wanted to create space here, outside and away from Social Media. Not necessarily a Blog Post circa 2002, but a little dose of inspiration with a side order of tips, tricks and how-to’s that will hopefully offer some takeaways for you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - 1 Sneaker, 5 Pieces, Multiple Outfits - Footwear is my leading accessory</image:title>
<image:caption>Why? Because as a Classic Style kinda gal, I’m not one to change up my jewellery or reach for other accessories like belts, scarves or hats (I blame wearing glasses for the last one - anyone else just feel like it’s too much?). For me it’s always been footwear. And as I’ve stepped into an older, wiser and more mature season of life - I’m going to add on another layer to this and say “comfortable footwear”. All joking aside, whether it’s a pair of shoes or pants - comfortability is not something I will compromise on. Life is too short and there are too many things on my agenda to do them in a state of not being comfortable - am I right? So the fact that Geox starts their designs with comfort first - you can feel confident in the fact that no matter what pair you lean into from heels (yes I said it), to boots, or to even platforms (gasp!) - you will be comfortable. Guaranteed. So if you are someone who typically leans into the idea of “practicality” as your go-go filter and excuse for either buying a pair or talking yourself out of a pair - it holds no weight here. Every box and criteria is checked when you step into a pair of Geox. Because apparently comfort AND style can be achieved at the same time. Here are a few of other pieces I reach for when it comes to my everyday style:</image:caption>

<image:caption>But if I had to pick one pair of white leather sneakers that I recommend - it’s these. Well, at the least the ones seen and linked below. Why I love this updated style? The classic and low profile on this sneaker makes it easy to wear with everything from joggers, to jeans, to skirts and dresses. <image:title>Blog - My Favourite Summer Shorts - Shorts you can LIVE in this Summer</image:title>
<image:caption>Let’s be honest, shorts are hard to shop for. But for some reason we think that the process will be easier than finding the “perfect” fitting pair of jeans or pants. Am I right? Thing is, all of the same factors are still at play: waist, length, style, stretch with a side order of the realization that your legs haven’t seen the light of day for the better part of a year. For that I reach for self tanner, but where was I? Shopping for shorts can be frustrating, but I’ve come to realize is if you apply all of the same rules that you do to other pieces of clothing, you’ll find some great options. Me? I look for stretch in the form of a non-negotiable that is an elasticized waist. Because let’s be honest - Summer is meant to be enjoyed. Here are a few of my favourite go-to’s this Summer Season:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A Few of My Summer Favourites - The Pre-Summer Season</image:title>
<image:caption>Like an appetizer so to speak. With weather worthy of that of July, May and early June has served up that Summer feeling. For me that also means baseball season is in full swing (no pun intended) and my mode very quickly switches from work to baseball mom very quickly. The pace is fast, the downtime is minimal, and the exhaustion level at an all time high. This is the time of year that I catch myself saying: it will get better when…. And when I did catch myself say those words out loud I decided to change up what’s not working. Because how else am I going to achieve that carefree, easy breezy Summer they sell so hard on the commercials? What helps? Leaning into and reaching for my favourite things. Old reliables, new favourites, and comfort that is all things Aerie. When my life is full, what I know is this - reaching for my favourite things on repeat somehow makes things easier. Like a constant when life starts to feel hectic! Here are a few of my favourite go-to’s as of late from life to style:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - My Top Sandal Picks for Summer - My Sandal Advice?</image:title>
<image:caption>Keep it neutral. As we step into Summer style, it typically means lighter weight materials along with colours and tones which means keeping footwear neutral will give you a lot more versatility when it comes to creating outfits without overthinking it. Also reaching for neutral tones means they don’t create a visual distraction by drawing the eye down to a focal point, and instead will lengthen your lower half out. Which as a side note is great when you are wearing shorts, skirts, dresses or anything ankle length - so basically all styles for the Summer season. Why I love Geox sandals specifically in the Summer? Because of all of the technology built into a stylish look. Breathability (hi there humidity and top temps are no joke), athletic inspired soles for cushioning and comfortability (because this girl rarely sits down in a day), and how lightweight every single pair is. Here are some of my favourites from GEOX’s latest Summer Sandal Collection:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Simple Style Solutions for Spring - Sometimes Style is as Simple as this…</image:title>
<image:caption>The energy of the season has us coming to life. An undeniable gravitational pull towards fresh, new and all things colour - or at the very least reaching for everyone’s favourite go-to colour black a little bit less. Simple ways you can lean into the energy of the Spring season: Add colour. Colour is energy which means it will automatically elevate and shift the feel of your outfit. Extra points for it being your favourite colour. Green is a neutral which means it goes with any colour. Suggestion to swap out darker coloured outerwear for a green for a lighter and fresher look for the season. Where you would typically lean into “practical”, lean into what you love. What speaks to you. What gets you excited. Because when you lean into that kind of energy (whether it’s style or anything else in this life) you can’t help but feel a shift. Here are some of my favourites from GEOX’s latest Spring Collection:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Spring Style | Transitional Jackets + Footwear - The Spring Season has officially arrived, and so has GEOX’s latest collection</image:title>
<image:caption>When I think of Spring, I think of kicking my heavy knits, warm jackets and skinny jeans to the curb in favour of bright colours, jackets that can be incorporated into an outfit for purposes beyond their function, and a really great sneaker. GEOX’s latest collection is delivering on all of the above this season with elevated sneakers, classic cut jackets with a dose of personality and heels that have incorporated technology and design that leaves you feeling as though you are wearing a sneaker. In short, you can kick that statement of “I can’t wear heels” to the curb. Because all of the reasons not to wear them don’t exist when it comes to GEOX’s walk pleasure technology. From sneakers, to heels, to loafers, to jackets - you know that technology features like waterproof, comfort, and breathability will always be at the forefront which means the “practical” part is covered so that you my friend can focus on which ones are your favourites AND lean into them without hesitation. <image:title>Blog - How to Wear a Denim Skirt + My Top Picks - Another trend that is back and here to stay: The Long Denim Skirt</image:title>
<image:caption>And if you’ve been hanging around here long enough you’ll know that once upon a time I was told that if you’ve lived through a style era once, you shouldn’t wear it again. That that I say: I disagree. Will you wear it the same way you did a few decades ago, probably not. But that doesn’t mean you should abandon it all together. My advice if you have lived through a style era before: pair that piece with an everyday classic piece you feel really comfortable and like yourself in. In the case of a long denim skirt, maybe a white button down (styled of course), or a turtleneck sweater, or graphic tee and moto jacket if that’s your vibe. Key here is, don’t overthink it. Instead of wearing jeans, wear a denim skirt and pair it with pieces the same way - including footwear.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to Wear Pearls Everyday + My Top Picks - Do you love pearls but tell yourself you can only wear them dressed up?</image:title>
<image:caption>My love for pearls runs deep. First and foremost my Nana’s middle name was Pearl, her mother’s name was Pearl, and now my daughter’s middle name is Pearl - alongside another one of my favourite names Isla (which comes from my other grandmother’s name just with a Scottish twist as an ode to my husband’s family). The other reason I love them? The classic elegance that they exude. In fact, I’d probably choose them over diamonds if I had to pick my favourite (gasp! don’t tell my husband - I don’t want to plant any seeds). Thing is they are so pretty that it’s easy to talk yourself out of wearing them everyday. The good news is I don’t live by the belief of saving good things for special occasions. From t-shirts to weddings, I always have them on. Whether it’s my go-to everyday pair of earrings, or the Mother’s Day gift that caught me off guard a few years ago (note: upside of having a spouse who waits until the 11th hour to purchase gifts means he usually defaults to stores who also provide gift wrapping - ha ha ha) in the form of this necklace that replicates the one my Nana always wore - well, they are a staple for me. Tip for wearing them everyday? Just wear them without over thinking it. Seriously, it’s just that easy. But if you feel like they are a little much (not words in my daily vocabulary), I’ve linked a few pieces that incorporate them as the supporting role. If you’re into main character energy, I’ve also linked my daily go-to’s that stand the test of time - and all style eras. Here are a few of my top picks:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to Wear Stripes + My Favourite Picks - Raise your hand if you’ve ever said “I can’t wear stripes!”</image:title>
<image:caption>Not being able to wear stripes it one of those old outdated style rules that falls into the same category as: black is slimming (more on that another day), and don’t wear white after Labour Day. Quick reminder: any rule in this life that holds you back than feeling at your best is probably not a rule you shouldn’t be following. But where were we? Thing is, stripes is one of the easiest patterns to incorporate into an outfit and bring a little personality to an otherwise plain Jane look (no offence to the Jane’s out there). The other thing? A lot of us fall into a Classic Style Personality category which means stripes ARE our pattern. So here’s a few tips on how to how to wear them and what to look for: Our eyes naturally love to follow lines. So if they are wider they create even more visual interest. Suggestion to wear them where you want to create visual interest. Like the idea of wearing them but are scared to lean into them? Reach for a top that you can wear under a third piece to create some personality without them needing to be the star of the show. The more close in colour the stripe colours, the more muted the piece will be. Black or navy on white stripes are always going to create the most pop and visual interest. Here are a few of my top picks:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to Wear a White Button Down + My Favourite Picks - A classic piece that is harder to wear than what it looks</image:title>
<image:caption>We all know how effortless the Pinterest girl makes it look (no disrespect, seriously - she makes everything look good). But when you step into a change room to only be left wondering: why the heck does it not look like that on me? Well, it’s probably because of a few key styling tricks that you haven’t factored in. In fact, they are the simple things that will be the game changer when it comes to styling up an otherwise very classic (and often boring) white button down shirt. Here are a few tips on how to style a classic white button down shirt: Cuff + roll the sleeves Create some breathing room by unbuttoning a few buttons Front half tuck for a trendier look Front tuck for a casual look Full tuck for the dressiest look Rule of thumb: if you are wearing this look with a pair of jeans, skinny will always look more dressier, and lighter washed distressed will always be more casual. Other design features I look for in a classic button down: drop shoulder circle hem poplin material Here are a few of my top picks:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to Wear Cargo Pants + My Favourite Pairs - A Trend Not Going Anywhere</image:title>
<image:caption>Once upon a time I was told that if you have already lived through a trend, you shouldn’t wear it again. To that I say: I disagree. Do I think you should wear it how you did maybe ten or twenty years ago? (for me, it’s the latter) - no. Because if I did, I’d be pairing my cargo pants with a wraparound top from Le Chateau circa 1994. It wasn’t pretty then, and it definitely isn’t pretty now. How I do think you should lead into a trend - for the first or second time? Here are a few tips: Pair them with a more classic piece like a sweater or long sleeve t-shirt. If you want to shift the energy of your outfit to be dressier, don’t be afraid to wear a dressier top or blouse. If you want to dress them down, wear a casual boot or sneaker. If you want to dress them up don’t be afraid to wear a heeled bootie or pair of heels. Rule of thumb when it comes to wearing a piece that is out of your style comfort zone: pair it with a piece that is part of your uniform. A go-to piece you feel comfortable and most like yourself in. If you are someone stuck in a legging or jogging pant comfort zone, think about reaching for this seasons trend (that I don’t think is going anywhere anytime soon), cargo pants. Note: they usually come with the extra benefit of an elasticized waist, just saying. Here are a few of my favourite pairs:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Holiday Gift Ideas - ‘Tis the Season</image:title>
<image:caption>…to overthink, stress, worry, or maybe you are already in full blown panic mode trying to source “the perfect gift” that we are often sold online. I gotta be honest - I don’t buy into it, The “perfect” part that is. So what if we all agreed to let that idea go - and instead focus on buying and giving gifts with intention instead. Because isn’t it the “thought” that counts as they say? Am I sharing gift ideas that I would love to receive or have given as gifts - yes. But if you are at the point that you can’t physically get them into your hands - a gift card is not a terrible option, as long as you do this… I spend a lot of time working 1:1 with women. And what I know through conversation (and life experience) is that at the end of the day we all want to be seen, heard and valued. And that doesn’t have to be shown through a big fancy expensive gift (although I wouldn’t be opposed to it either - ha ha ha). This can be done through the words that we use when giving said thoughtful gift. What do I mean? First of all - don’t go to your local convenience store and let the gift card section speak to you. Be intentional. Go to a store that you know they like. Where they would want to spend money but might hesitate to because women are typically hard wired to feel guilty about spending money on themselves. Is there something they have talked about wanting? What would excite them? And now the “words” part. Write a card. Tell them what they mean to you. Tell them why you picked the gift for them. Why this matters? your WORDS will be what makes them feel seen and valued. And isn’t that the whole point of buying a gift for someone? Here are a few of my favourite go-to’s as of late from life to style:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A Few of My Summer Favourites - ‘Tis the Season</image:title>
<image:caption>For Summer sales and reaching for the same things on repeat. If there was one season a year that I could truly live a minimalistic life - it would be Summer. Anyone else notice they are reaching for the same handful of pieces day-in, and day-out? I mean, as an expert I would say if you do - invest in those pieces because you know your cost per wear will be low. Why do I highlight this? Because if statements like “it’s fine, it will do, or it’s okay” are ones I hear on repeat all year long - well then statements like “I’m just going to the beach, or I’m just going to be hanging out with my kids, or I don’t really get dressed up in the Summer soooo…” are the statements I hear in Summer. I get it, life is absolutely different in the Summer. The heat, the pace, the different modes compared to the rest of the year - but this is your reminder to not settle. Ill-fitting clothing (is that still a saying? I feel like I just aged myself) in the form of quality, cut and lack of shape are often the characteristics that come along with “settling” on cheaper pieces. Just make sure you aren’t swapping feeling good in your clothes for “saving” during those Summer sales months. Deal? Here are a few of my favourite go-to’s as of late from life to style:</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - My Favourite White Sneakers - Find YOUR Perfect Pair</image:title>
<image:caption>If jeans are my go-to bottoms, then white sneakers are my go-to favourite footwear. But before we go any further let’s clarify what I mean by white sneakers shall we? What I don’t mean is a white running shoe that you would work out in, go for a walk or run in, or find in any athletic section of a shoe store. What I mean is a tennis-like looking shoe that you would not play tennis in - ha ha ha. Why I love the white sneaker as much as I do? Because it’s a foolproof, goes with everything, instantly dresses down an outfit while also leaving you feeling as though you can move through your day what whatever pace is required. All while feeling pulled together. And because the theme of my Instagram DM’s as of late has been “can you send me a link to your favourite sneakers” - I thought a Blog post circa 1995 would be a more appropriate way to reach the masses and ensure you find the perfect pair for YOU! Am I one to use the term “perfect” when it comes to style? Not usually. But when I attach it to the statement “for YOU”, well then - suddenly it takes on a whole new meaning.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Stepping into Spring with GEOX - Craving Colour?</image:title>
<image:caption>‘tis the season for craving change. Am I right? After months of grey skies and cooler (or freezing) temps, there is an undeniable feeling that comes with the anticipation of Spring. Whether it’s cleaning things out, or getting started on a project you’ve been wanting to do, or simply feeling as though you have an extra step in your step. The Spring season for a lot of us is the one we crave the most. Like stepping into new energy and all of the good things that come along with it. When it comes to style, it’s the season of all things colour, print and pattern. Even if you are someone who traditionally lives in your “classic style personality” (raises hand) for all other seasons of the year - there is just something about Spring that seems to bring out a whole other side of us. For me - it’s colour with a side order of floral print (I know, groundbreaking!). So when I saw the latest Spherica Actif collection from GEOX this year, well safe to say my jeans and white t-shirt combo is getting an upgrade. When they say unsurpassed comfort, they mean it. So knowing comfort and functionality are covered, the only question really is “what colour do you choose?'“…or in my case specifically: “colours”. Shop the latest Spherica Actif collection from GEOX alongside some of my other top picks for the early Spring season below.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - My Favourite Holiday Gifts - To give, and recieve</image:title>
<image:caption>‘Tis the Season for gift giving to others and maybe even to yourself (no - just me?). One of my favourite criteria when it comes to picking out a gift is “something they would love, and probably use everyday - but hesitate to buy it for themselves”. This year I’m reaching for gifts that are simple but significant. Some are already my daily go-to things (hello Peppermint Halo), things that have quickly become favourites in our home this Holiday season (Santa Mugs that remind me of my childhood), or things that are currently on my wish list that I have sent my husband direct links to! Here are a few of my favourite Holiday gifts this year…</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Style Picks - If you know, you know</image:title>
<image:caption>Nordstrom is one of my go-to favourite stores to shop in. Why? Because first and foremost they create an experience with their beautiful and spacious stores filled with enthusiastic and helpful stylists - but also because of the way they curate their collection of products. Think of every section being filled with the top picks from all of the brands they carry. In short - they do the work for you, so you always know you are making a good choice. And in the off chance you aren’t? Well, their customer service and return policy is second-to-none. So much so they have a book called The Nordstrom Way that I highly recommend every business owner reads. But back to the topic at hand - the annual Anniversary Sale that is completely opposite to how most sales work. Instead of this sale happening at the end of the season, this sale starts before. As in top picks for Fall on sale and at the best price of the season now - but only for a limited time. What I’ve included in my top picks? My favourite underwear, earrings, the perfect everyday sneaker, a dupe of the blazer I always talk about from Aritzia and one if you are willing to break the bank for, deserves a moment to be celebrated. These are my top “everyday” style picks from this year’s Anniversary Sale.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - My Favourite Finds + Top Picks from Geox - We’ve almost reached the wear now, wear later point of the season</image:title>
<image:caption>Remember all of those months ago when we were desperate for sunshine, warmth and all things that we felt like we were crawling out of Winter? Anyone else feel like we are officially at that point - at least weather wise? We’ve officially kicked heavy jackets to the curb and have lighter weight sweaters at the ready just in case the temperatures dip low enough. Sandals are now part of the weekly rotation and I for one cannot wait for third pieces to step aside until Fall. The theme of what clients are looking for right now? A Spring refresh that will carry them into those long Summer days. Great elevated basic pieces that can be worn in so many different ways from work, to running from one thing to the next, to hopefully hitting up a patio or two. These are some of my favourite finds + my top picks from Geox from their latest collection to compliment your looks.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Spring Style Refresh - ‘Tis the Season for a Spring Refresh</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’re like me you’ve probably tacked some form of Spring Cleaning - otherwise known as I become obsessed with every aspect of our home being completely cleaned out and ready to take on the new Season. How I go about doing it? Out with the old and in with the new similar to that of a really great New Years Resolution inspired by a champagne consumed moment….I’m kidding. The changing of the season is a great opportunity to clean out what you won’t need next year instead of relocating it. When it comes to my kids - the winter boots or snowsuits that won’t fit them next season. When it comes to me, taking a hard (and honest) look at what I wore, what I didn’t and what I don’t want to carry with me into the next Season. Safe to say this approach can also be used in other aspects of your life like: habits, thoughts, actions, etc. wink wink. But on the flip side, cleaning things out also allows us to identify what we’re missing, what gaps we want to fill and what did serve us this season.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Things I’m Loving Right Now - ‘Tis the Season for all things pink, hearts & love</image:title>
<image:caption>Well, ‘tis the Season for all things love. From Valentine's Day Gift Guides, to the perfect gift, to crafts (no thank you), to decor (extra no thank you) - we basically have less than a week left before everything officially flips over to Easter mode. Same chocolate, different packaging. So instead of offering up the traditional things that might be landing in your inbox this week I thought I would highlight the things that I am leaning on and loving as of late. Some “oldies but goodies” - like an old reliable kind of thing, and some new - because well, it’s been a hell of a year and if buying a pair of bright pink shoes that you won’t be able to wear outside for months brings you joy - then buy them. At least that’s my mantra.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Why You Don’t Need New Years Resolutions - What you need is clarity on what you want</image:title>
<image:caption>How many New Years Eve’s have we been caught up in the moment (and a few glasses of champagne deep) talking about all of the things we are going to do differently and maybe even change about ourselves on January 1st. You know, all of the things that we probably didn’t prioritize and take action on. The things that usually come along with words like “should”, “want”, and “hope” without a real plan as to how we’re going to bring them to life. My advice? Instead of skipping ahead and identifying all of the things you want to do as soon as the clock strikes midnight - pause and ask yourself what the fu*k you want. Huh? Yes I know, the concept is startling isn’t it. But have you ever stopped to think about maybe the reason you aren’t executing on all of the “should’s”, “wants”, and “hopes” is because you haven’t truly stopped to ask yourself: What do I want?; and How bad do I want it? Yep, that’s where it gets real. I mean easy enough to identify what you do want right? Things like, more time to do things I want to do like read, run, sew (whatever - that’s for you to decide), but if you aren’t consciously taking action to create that space in your life how is it going to happen? Problem is, most of us start by looking at what is already on the agenda (usually dictated by other’s priorities and expectations) and then fitting in what we want around those things. In short, not making it a priority and putting ourselves and what we want second. If you want this year to be different, you have to take action in a different way. First and foremost What do you want and need in your life so that you can show up as your best self? Perfect - schedule it. Like right now. I know, crazy talk am I right? You want to go to Yoga a few times a week - schedule it. You want to get together with your girlfriends more often - book it. You want more family time - start setting boundaries. You want more time to yourself in general - then say no to things that don’t fill you up. For most of us our life is happening TO us. We are living on autopilot letting everyone else’s priorities dictate ours and what we are left with is very little (if any) quality time for what is truly important to us and getting us one step closer to what we want out of this life.</image:caption>
