Mmmmm spring! The blossoms, the bluer skies and all those trends hitting the shelves!! This season I curbed the usual temptation and did a slow inhale, exhale and pause before deciding what I would allow in my closet for the season. The stylesmiths at Smithery Style helped me take stock of my wardrobe and my body shape to pick the pieces that will give me the most outfit mileage this spring. We’re calling this series the Three Way – one piece styled into three looks (ok ok, it’s actually three ways plus a wild card look but four way doesn’t have that same ring). Here’s how they styled me up!
The Piece:
A floral tank by Canadian designer Gentle Fawn. As a compact V Shape, my shoulders are on the broader side (what?!) so higher necklines can be trickier to wear. But this one has strong vertical lines which elongate the upper body and the floaty bottom adds balance.
Look 1:
Tank + White Denim + Open Toe Bootie
Stylist notes: V Shapes wear white denim especially well
Look 2:
Tank + Distressed Denim + Flip Flops
Stylist notes: boyfriend jeans and flip flops bring a perfect boy meets girl casual vibe to any romantic tank
Look 3:
Tank + White Denim + Layer
Stylist notes: a cute top layer, what we call the 3rd piece, makes any outfit more interesting
Wild Card:
Stylist notes: Susan rarely tucks in her tops but a high waisted pair of wide leg pants beg for some tucking and the overall effect helps define her waist.
Extra Wild Card:
Add a toddler to anything and watch everything unravel.
Style Challenge: This week, pick a top that you usually wear loose and try tucking it in for more outfit mileage and a whittled waist.
