If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know there’s a White Party around the corner!! It started with planning a photo shoot for all the new summer pieces from my friends at Smithery Style…and a few glasses of bubbly later, we figured a White Party was 100% in order. Find all the deets for this prosecco-filled – 90′ – R&B – old friends – new- friends – everything-white event here.
When it comes to dressing in white, there are some insider tricks for wearing this colour (or absence of colour, really) to most flatter your body shape. The eye will be drawn directly to wherever you are wearing white while darker colours recede and typically anything white reads as larger than it is. Knowing that, Smithery has us covered with some pointers on finding your perfect White Party attire.
X Shape: Smithery Style x Asher
The hourglass rocks anything that follows her curves. The trick to finding a favourite all-white look is to look beyond the really boho or stiff cotton side of white and pick a piece that has great stretch or drape.
The H has a more column like effect so her straighter frame sports a boxier piece or extra fringe really well. Bring on the boho cuts and detailing. A belt or a half tuck is also an easy way of reigning in your Kade Hudson vibes and helping to create a bit of waist definition.
A Shape: Smithery Style x Dania Top
A style trick for A Shapes (ladies whose hips are wider than their shoulders), is to draw attention to the upper half of the body and keep it simple on the bottom half. A white shirt will add visual weight on top which is just what the stylist ordered. Bonus points for details that frame the face like cool stitching or ruffles.
V Shapes are the opposite of A’s, with broader shoulders and more narrow hips. She wears white on the bottom half really well as it balances the upper body. Think pleats, voluminous white skirts, or gaucho style pants. Keep it simple up top.
O Shape: Smithery Style x Pacifica
O Shapes have fuller chests and tummies and are blessed with killer legs. One styling trick for wearing white is dubbed the Column of Colour. Picture a white bottom and white top (or a white dress) layered with a third piece (think a kimono or lightweight vest or cardi). It’s especially flattering because the eye reads the body as being as slim as that centre white line you’ve just created.
Soooo the only questions left are: 1. Have you planned your white outfit; and 2. Have you RSVP’d to the Ilsa Pearl x Smithery White Party yet?
